During the development of Tak and The Guardians of Gross it seemed as if was going to be a sequel to the original games. There was a lot of stuff cut from the final game like characters, levels, and animal interactions. The Guardians of Gross were meant to be based on various elements (Ex: Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind) instead of garbage. Some of the concept art was used for the loading screen.

It is unknown what the plot of the game was intended to be, but Tak and Tlaloc were both intended playable characters, and going by the concept art of Duncan Nimmo (an artist who worked on the game) the Jujus were originally intended to be based on the classical elements just as the Big Gs were conceptualized. There was also a character reffered to as the Dark Shaman.

According to The Cutting Room Floor (a website for researching unused content and beta elements in video games), the game was reffered to as Tak08 and Tak 4 while in development.
